John O’Groats Community Project

This year when riding from Land’s End to John O’Groats raising money for The Outward Bound Trust, Dulux will also be carrying out Let’s Colour projects to improve the local communities that we pass through.  Here’s one example from last year:

On Friday 7th June, the Dulux riders cycled through John O’Groats to present a plaque to commemorate the occasion and celebrated with local volunteers on their colourful transformation achievement. With the riders starting at John O’Groats, the Dulux Let’s Colour Project gave the coastal community a wave of nautical colour. Reflecting the nearby harbour, the eye-catching design features a natural, sealife palette filled with cool, azure blues, golden yellows and sandstone shades, with vibrancy added through sea creatures, figures and boats.

Dulux Decorator Centre’s in Inverness and Maryhill donated the 210 litres required to complete the colourful transformations in the Scottish Highlands, where the cycle ride began, into vibrant community spaces for local residents to feel proud of.

The team of over 100 Let’s Colour riders, made up of Dulux employees and customers, cycled 960 miles over nine days starting in John O’Groats on 8th June before completing their momentous cycle challenge at Land’s End on 16th June to raise up to £250,000 for The Outward Bound Trust charity.

“The Let’s Colour Project at John O’Groats has changed forgotten walls into a great feature that has added interest and attraction to an exciting space with walls that were previously crying out for attention.”

John O’Groats has been undergoing significant improvements works recently and the mural at the harbour goes a long way in adding interest to the walls which were previously neglected. Creative Branch Scotland managed the design and helped local people, youth and tourists to get involved and paint their own wee section of the mural. The local community and businesses have been overjoyed with the work with murals reflecting the heritage and features of the local area. Thanks to Dulux and the Inverness paint centre for all your help!
