This year my Ride Across Britain is not only fundraising for The Outward Bound Trust, but along the way Dulux will be undertaking a number of community projects to improve the environment along the route of the bike ride.  Over the next months I’ll occasionally highlight work from last year.  Let’s start at the beginning of the 2014 ride…

Last year, near Land’s End…

Before
After

Over 100 litres of paint have been dedicated to transforming Sennen Community Hall into a vibrant community space for the local residents to feel proud of.

At Sennen Community Hall, the community came together to rejuvenate the tired hall, including 11 representatives of Dulux Tinting Services, led by Graeme Chilvers who is part of the core Dulux riders team. They splashed out with block colour on three walls to reflect the nearby coastal community, using sea blues, golden yellows and teal greens. A vibrant mural was created on the fourth wall reflecting an uplifting image of the community and its surroundings. To complete the colourful transformation, the name of the hall has also been adorned onto the brightly coloured painted walls.

Staff, children, parents and local businesses, including six representatives of Dulux Decorator Centres in the Scotland South region, came together to help brighten up every inch of the garden area of the centre, to give kids an engaging and vibrant play area to feel inspired by.

The hall is a valuable resource for the Cornish community who use it to host social events, parties, dances, farmers markets, martial arts and fitness classes. A local circus group, Incandescence, also use the hall for practice and as a base for its trapeze.

The team of over 100 Let’s Colour riders, made up of Dulux employees and customers, cycled 960 miles over nine days starting in John O’Groats on 8th June before completing their momentous cycle challenge at Land’s End on 16th June to raise up to £250,000 for The Outward Bound Trust charity.

Sennen Community Hall were chosen by the Let’s Colour Project noting the positive impact it would have on the daily lives of 1,000 people in the surrounding area, sourced by Groundwork UK. The Dulux Decorator Centre in Long Rock, Penzance donated over 100 litres required to complete the colourful transformation.
